A letter from our founder,
Rayna Reid Rayford

At 2 a.m., seven months postpartum, I found myself pumping in the quiet of my home, staring at the baby monitor and thinking about the truth no one talks about enough:

I am only here because I wasn’t alone. During my pregnancy, I survived what I now call "appendixgate"—a medical crisis that could have taken my life. In the waiting room that day sat five healthcare professionals I personally knew. Five people who understood what to ask, how to escalate, and how to make sure I was seen.

But most women — especially Black women — don’t have that. That's why I launched Pregnant and Black, because I couldn’t shake the question that changed everything for me:

What if every pregnant woman had that kind of support in her pocket?

What if she didn’t have to interact with the medical system alone?
What if she didn’t have to advocate through fear, pain, or dismissal?
What if she didn’t have to feel isolated, invisible, or powerless?

Pregnant and Black was born from that vision. Not just an app, but a lifeline, a community. Not just information, but real-time advocacy. Not just resources, but community.

A space where no woman has to wonder if she’s overreacting or underserving herself. Where she is heard before harm happens. Where strength is not measured by silence. We’re building a future where every woman has:

Your advocate. Your strength. Your health.

Because survival shouldn’t depend on who you know. And motherhood shouldn’t start in fear.

Because Pregnancy Should Never Be Faced Alone

Protect a Pregnancy

Pregnancy should never be a life-or-death experience. Your support helps place a trained healthcare advocate in a pregnant person’s corner, at appointments, during emergencies, and when it matters most.

Be the Village

It takes a village to support a healthy pregnancy, and this means showing up with care, time, skills, and resources so no one has to navigate pregnancy alone. This is how we turn community into care.

Stay Connected

Follow us to learn, share stories, and help amplify the voices and realities that too often go unheard. Together we can build a community that listens, learns, and shows up for pregnant women, beyond a single moment.
